One hour talk with panelists Hélène Lawler, Jane Ardern, Karen Deeds & Petra Ford
Questions include:
- What is your best part of living with a HDD, what is the hardest or your least fav thing?
- What does a typical day or week look like for you when living with your HDD? How much do you actually train? Do you do a lot of enrichment? Do you utilize much confinement?
- “Off-Switch” for non-working times. In your experience do dogs come with that genetically? Do you need to create/build that and if so how do you do that? What rules and boundaries do you have in your home to keep it from being chaos?
- We often see behavior problems in dogs that are labeled HDD. Is that unavoidable? Is it a misconception? Is it actually more about arousal?
- What skills or concepts do you teach early when you suspect you have a HDD? What are your puppy priorities?

Panel talk - Reinforcement Strategies for the High Drive Dog
One hour talk with panelists Crystal Wing, Denise Fenzi, Sara Brueske & Shade Whitesel
Questions include:
- Common saying in the training world is that “the dog decides what is reinforcing”. How much do you go along with that or is it important to you that your dog has a wide variety of reinforcers to utilize for training? How much work are you willing to do to balance things like food drive and toy drive? Dealing with reinforcers you can’t control?
- Can you/do you manipulate and/or test arousal with your reinforcement procedures?
- HDD often have big feelings both about working and around their reinforcers. What are the things you do to avoid frustration or over-arousal when utilizing rewards? How do you make things clear for them as to when they have earned their reward?
- Is handling errors any different when training a HDD?
