Our dogs work beautifully at home and in our training building. Then we go to a trial and things don’t go as planned. What happened? Each trial site has an array of unique distractions and unforeseen challenges. Dogs will encounter different forms of pressure both outside and in the ring. When we get there, we think we have a plan, but something always happens to disrupt it. It’s almost impossible to time exactly when you will go in the ring. Warming up and getting to the ring can be a challenge. Often something mysterious happens as soon as our dogs enter the ring. They change…but typically not for the better.
In this presentation we will discuss what you can do to prepare yourself and your dog for the challenges of the show environment. Confidence comes from good preparation, understanding how to work under a wide variety of conditions and challenges and solid contingency plans. When we are self-assured and give our dogs clear cues that they understand, they can perform with confidence. Join me to learn how you and your dog can embody confidence in competition!
