Course Details
We’ve all heard that our dogs need to be in an optimal state of arousal to maximize learning and performance. However, managing arousal both in training and in the ring can be quite challenging. In this workshop you will learn to read your dog’s arousal, recognize when it’s to high and to low and identify the underlying cause. I will show you how to teach your dog an “up” cue to increase arousal and a “calming” cue to lower arousal. Once your dog fully understands these cues, you can manage their arousal to ensure they are in an optimal state for training and performance. Dogs can even learn how to manage their own arousal. When training I am constantly reading and adjusting my dog’s arousal level. In the ring I use the time from “exercise finished” to “ready” to regulate my dog’s arousal for optimal focus and performance. This workshop will teach you how to do the same.
