Course Details
Your dog knows how to heel, but maintaining engagement and enthusiasm for a full pattern is challenging. A heeling pattern is a complex behavior chain that requires an enormous amount of mental focus. Dogs tend to get flat, lose attention, have trouble maintaining position, get overly pushy or aroused, etc. As the pattern goes on, quality and precision fade. In this workshop we will look at a variety of techniques to keep your dog actively engaged and animated without losing accuracy. We will look at games that will improve your dog’s commitment to heel position. We will look at backchaining, comparisons, using reinforcers for maximum impact and more to maintain enthusiasm while lengthening the chain. Whether your dog has just learned how to heel, or your dog is a seasoned competitor, these techniques will create a dog that easily heels a full pattern (and more) with energy and joy.
