Course Details
This is the first in a series of classes designed to build and stretch your team's skills in the sport of Nosework. In these classes, we will explore different exercises that will strengthen our dogs' abilities to get to odor efficiently and effectively... and have fun doing it!
These classes can be taken in any order and are a perfect augment to any training curriculum.
Each week we will do several exercises related to a specific theme... each theme is targeted at a specific skill...
In Series 1 we will explore...
... Do you REALLY work corners? Corners occur in more than just 4 areas of a room. Some corners are mild and some jut out into the search area. Get in deep and don't miss those hides!
... How often do you age your hides? Aged hides present special unique challenges that are compounded by the search area characteristics.
... Containers are one of the most dreaded elements in a Nosework trial. Hone your dog's scenting skills as well as your handling.
... Not all search areas are flat! Work with scent theory to understand the effects of elevation on scent and search behavior.
... The closer you are to your dog, the more influence you exert. This is the Proximity of Influence. Use Distance Drills to enhance independent searching behavior.
... Inaccessibles are inaccessible on a spectrum. Some inaccessible hides are quite inaccessible. Build your dog's confidence in driving to get to odor.
