Course Details
Prey drive is completely normal in dogs. Many dogs have been selectively bred to have a high prey drive as it helps them be better working dogs. That instinctive interest in prey is often a reason for dogs to remain on leash for walks or hikes in places with prey.
Leash walking for sure keeps dogs and prey safe BUT it might not be keeping you safe. Encounters with prey are hard to avoid for most people. Critters are everywhere. Most high prey drive dogs respond to being confined on a leash by pulling, lunging and sometimes barking too when they smell, see or even hear prey nearby.
In this workshop I'll give you some brief information to help you understand why your leash struggles are nothing that you have done wrong. Then it'll give you the skills to do three things that help with on leash outings and high prey drive dogs.
1. Quickly stop any pulling and get the situation under control.
2. Training for duration of loose leash walking that doesn't depend on you knowing what distractions are around or on you having a perfect training setup.
3. Training to help you get out of dodge in those situations where the place you are walking through is suddenly way more prey filled than you thought it was going to be.
