Course Details
This workshop will teach your dog what we refer to as a mark. Your dog will learn a cue for looking straight ahead for a task to do, whether that is looking ahead for an item to retrieve such as a glove or bird, or looking ahead to find a target such as their go out spot or even that first obstacle on the agility startline.
You need this workshop if your dog:
- Is struggling to go out far enough on the go out. They may look confused as to where they are going and even veer off their line.
- Is limiting your options on how you lead out on the agility startline. You feel like you can only lead out directly ahead and can't move off that line without the dog coming to you instead of taking that first obstacle.
- Is "auto marking" and selecting where they are going to be sent to before you tell them! This can show up on the glove exercise where the dog guesses what glove they are going to get, or the same issue in agility where the dog locks into that tunnel and refuses to be told otherwise!
We will discuss how to teach the idea that the dog is always to mark in a straight line and ignore the other available choices out there! Don't look at those other tempting jumps or retrieve items!
This workshop will take you from step 1 (marking a "reward" like a food bowl or toy), and progress to how to switch out to an empty target, and then generalize it to whatever you want to send your dog to . Think of the mark as a "pre-cue" that tells your dog where they will be sending to next!
Note, this workshop is only covering the marking portion of those exercises. We will not be discussing how to teach your dog to retrieve the glove or how to teach your dog to send away on a go out.
Note: This workshop has been re-recorded but is a repeat workshop that has run previously under a different course number. Please review your workshop library to make sure this would not be a duplicate purchase.
