We all know that senior dogs are special. And we also know that it’s important to adapt to meet their ever-changing physical, mental, and emotional needs as they age. One way in which we can make their lives more comfortable is through the thoughtful use of cooperative care work.
Senior dogs are highly likely to need more physical care as they age. They will probably be taking more medications (both pills and injections) and need more physical exams. They may have pain-related conditions that affect their tolerance for touch and handling. Normal age-related changes in vision and hearing mean that we will need to change the way we interact with them as we care for them.
Older dogs may lose balance, stability, and strength. As we work with them for basic grooming and veterinary procedures we will need to adjust and adapt to keep them relaxed and comfortable. Join Deb for a look at some of the ways we can help our senior dogs stay healthy and happy for all their physical care.
