One effective strategy to use for Time Warp is to ask your dog to stop moving between throws. This forces them to connect with you, allowing you to take your time throwing accurately. In my strategy, I throw the first three throws in motion, then call a “wait” for the sweet spot double shot.

You can start training a wait by using food. Grab a handful of kibble, toss one out. After your dog eats it, ask them to wait and freeze yourself (your body language will help communicate the need for an immediate stop in motion). Mark and toss another piece of kibble near your dog. Repeat until your dog catches onto the game.

Now play the same game, only with discs. If your dog has ribbon work, it’s great to incorporate your waits into that. I prefer initially asking for a wait after a spin or rear cross and mixing solo-waits in between when teaching the behavior.  Start with short throws with your dog staying close and eventually ask for waits further out. For an effective wait in Time Warp, your dog will have to stop moving between 20-30 yards from you.
