Course Details
Obedience, Rally and Agility are all “Team” sports. Which means both of you need to be on the same page. Like it or not, you are leader of the team. Your teammate is looking to you for information and support. We want our dogs to give us 100% effort and focus. Which means we must do the same….and we often don’t. When we disconnect from our dogs, they are confused, which leads to worry. This presents as “ring stress”. In reality, it’s just uncertainty. Just as we train our dogs to stay focused, we must train ourselves to stay connected to our dogs. Maintaining connection provides our dogs with an emotional anchor. It enables us to read our dogs in real time and adjust our handling to support them. In this workshop we will work on building good habits by maintaining connection when training. We will look at how to maintain connection at a trail from warmup through the end of our run. We will discuss how to stay connected when unexpected things happen and when the judge and/or steward want to talk to us. Even if you are not ready to go in the ring, this workshop will help you establish a strong connection with your dog that will improve your training.
